As a child of Greek immigrant parents, who came to Victoria in the early 1970’s, I can tell you that owning a restaurant and serving delicious and fresh Greek food is part of my DNA. It makes up who I am and I wouldn’t have it any other way.
The heart of a Greek family’s home is the kitchen. It’s a place where everyone is welcome. There is always more than enough food. The dishes are simple yet mouth-wateringly good, made with the most natural of ingredients, with recipes passed down from generation to generation. In much the same way, The Village Taverna is imbued with many of the traditional recipes I inherited from my father Eugene. The Village Taverna pays tribute to my family’s heritage. I’ve sought to bring the flavours, the quality and the experience of the Greek kitchen to the Cook St. Village. At its heart, The Village Taverna is built on the concept of “filoxenia”— legendary Greek hospitality.
Open and inviting, I opened The Village Taverna so that everyone could taste the flavours of Greece in a fun, yet relaxed atmosphere. We source the best possible ingredients and cook the best possible food.
At The Village Taverna we select our vendors carefully, and we stay as local as possible. We look for the best food produced with best practices. And if we can't find something essential that’s up to our standards, we make it ourselves. From scratch.

Meet Terry Vassiliadis
Terry is the founder and owner of The Village Taverna. He is a self-made restaurateur who started out at the age of 14 in the family business, Eugene’s Greek Restaurant. Terry spent the first 10 years of his life in Greece — a formative experience that fostered his affinity for Greek cuisine and his desire to bring people together over a good meal.
